We believe the Play Phase framework and approach will present being physically active, enjoying being physically active and being social with other children in a way that will resonate with our youngest players so they stick with being physically active long term. As always, child first and football second.
1.Characteristics of Effective Learning: Skilful players can solve game problems quickly and efficiently. Effective learners can explore, investigate and take risks. They are motivated to keep trying until they succeed, and can respond positively to failure. They are able to think critically, make links and develop strategies for the achievement of goals as they play. In doing so they develop a greater sense of curiosity, competence and mastery. This is great for football.
2. Personal, Social & Emotional Development: Skilful players can stay calm under pressure. Involves developing confidence, a positive sense of self and an ability to create strong relationships with others. It considers appropriate behaviour in groups and helps the child to manage feelings and their own sense of health and well-being. Playing with and alongside others is a skill for life.
3. Physical Development: Skilful players move fluently and effectively with and without the ball. Children are hardwired for movement and activity. This should include the coordination and control of these movements. Feeling physical confident will allow for participation in so many activities (including football) and can greatly enhance quality of life.
4. Communication & Language: Skilful players are articulate and can communicate easily with a wide range of people. Being able to express yourself and understand others is a basic natural need. Doing this with confidence and in a range of different situations and with different people is essential for each child.
